Gain a critical understanding of how shamanic tourism in the Amazon Rainforest is part of an ancient calling of the spirit.
Taught by award-winning film maker Jerónimo Mazarrasa, this course illuminates the ultimate journey of the spirit: The pilgrim’s way.
In this short course, you’ll learn about:
- Historical and contemporary sacred pilgrimages across cultures
- Fantasies of lost paradise in the history of Western civilization
- Fake shamans, imposter healers and reality
- The ethical responsibilities of the neoshamanic calling
“This learning hub provides crucial information about ayahuasca itself and about the integration of ayahuasca into Western cultures. The teachers at Kahpi are superb.”
Rick Doblin, Ph.D - Founder and Executive Director of The Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS)
The human spirit is often characterized as having a deep longing. This longing can take many forms, but perhaps its most epic realisation is in the longing to go on a journey across the globe and across or through the inner mind. In this provocative course, Jerónimo Mazarrasa teaches us about this journey and its potential promises and pitfalls.
He teaches us about the possible challenges and issues that arise when we encounter the actual people and cultures of our fascination and spiritual longing. Demonstrating how “we don’t see the world as it is, we see it as we are”, Jerónimo critically unpacks the intercultural spiritual journey. Examining portrayals of the "noble savage" and examples of cultural appropriation, he teaches us about the fundamental importance of humility for the path of spiritual knowledge.
The course also shares insights about the history of Westerns encountering ayahuasca ceremonies among native people in the Amazon rainforest in the 1800s. You’ll learn about essential elements of a spiritual story that spans across time and culture. This story is still as important as ever for helping us develop an honest and mature ethics of intercultural encounters.
